If you’re like me, then New Girl is one of your top comfort TV shows (I’ve personally rewatched it three times, and it gets funnier and funnier)! Almost nothing makes me happier than relaxing with New Girl playing in the background – nothing except reading, of course. Stuck in a reading rut or just need the same feels New Girl gives you? You will LOVE these books.

Want more? Check out these books based on your fave retro TV show!

Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter

If Jess was looking to read a YA book, she would pick up Better Than the Movies. Liz is a daydreamer who has her heart set on her childhood crush, Michael. To win his heart, she teams up with the annoyingly cute neighbor, Wes. Liz and Wes’s relationship gives serious Nick and Jess vibes, not to mention Jess’s favorite movie is Dirty Dancing, and the famous dance routine from that movie is right smack on the cover of Better Than the Movies. Already read this swoony romance? Read an extra short story from Wes's perspective, Better Than the Prom!

The Voice Upstairs by Laura E. Weymouth

If you’re a true New Girl fan, you’ll know that all throughout the show, Nick is an aspiring novelist and finally makes it big at the end. At first, he starts his writing career off with a terrible zombie novel, but he finds real success in his YA detective series, the Pepperwood Chronicles. This is why we had to pair him with The Voice Upstairs. This book is a total mystery with a secretly romantic soul, just like Nick himself! The Voice Upstairs comes out in October, and you can preorder here!

We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This by Rachel Lynn Solomon

Schmidt is proudly Jewish, so we had to match him with one of our fave Jewish authors, Rachel Lynn Solomon – and We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This is PERFECT for Schmidt’s character. I’m sure that is something he would say to his love interest, Cece, as they continue to toe the line of a serious relationship through the seasons, just like Quinn and Tarek!

Mysteries of Thorn Manor by Margaret Rogerson

Who is Winston without his weirdly close relationship to his furry companion, Ferguson? Winston without Ferguson is like Nathaniel and Elisabeth without Silas – sad and alone. I needed to pair Winston/Ferguson with Mysteries of Thorn Manor, the feel-good novella following our fave characters from the world of Sorcery of Thorns.

The Love Match by Priyanka Taslim

Cece has had ups and downs in romance. From an arranged marriage to a douchey DJ, Cece yearns for her perfect match, a feeling Zahra from The Love Match also has as she, too, is arranged. Much like Cece, an arranged marriage is not in Zahra’s future and she’ll do what it takes to ruin her parents’ plans.

Time Out by Sean Hayes

If your fave New Girl character is Coach, chances are you’ll love Time Out. Coach is a former athlete and would connect with Barclay’s, from Time Out, love for basketball. Time Out is a queer coming-of-age about a teen hometown hero who must find out who he is outside of basketball when his coming out as gay costs him his popularity and place on the team.
