Find What Book Pairs Perfectly With Your Favorite Cooking Show

1. The Great British Bake Off: A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow by Laura Taylor Namey

Turning on an episode of The Great British Bake Off is as soothing as sipping a cup of warm tea under a cozy blanket. If you’re a fan of this calming show, you’ll love this heartfelt story about a Miami girl who unexpectedly finds love —and herself— in a small English town.

2. School of Chocolate: The Witch Haven by Sasha Peyton Smith

If you’re still crossing fingers for another season of School of Chocolate (please, Netflix!) don’t worry, school is still in session in this book. In The Witch Haven Frances Hallowell and her classmates spend their days learning the spells and skills necessary to become powerful witches. Time to swap the whisk for a wand!

3. Hell’s Kitchen: The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell

The stakes are high in Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen. Even higher if you’re trying to beat out 19 other chefs for $250,000 and a head chef job in a Ramsay restaurant. But Esta from The Last Magician wouldn’t break a sweat. After all, what’s more stressful than having to go back in time to steal an ancient book to save the future? Even with her magical training, Esta knows securing the future of the Mageus will be no easy task.

4. MasterChef Junior: Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare

If you’ve ever watched MasterChef Junior then you know these kids are no ordinary kids. They’re elite chefs in their kitchens and mostly before reaching puberty. But still, the show is still full of yummy-looking food, fierce competition, and of course the unavoidable kitchen accidents. If you loved The Infernal Devices series and aren’t ready to give up Will and Tessa, then pick up the first book in The Last Hours series, Chain of Gold…and meet their children, James and Lucie!

5. Chopped: I Killed Zoe Spanos by Kit Frick

Do you love the way your heart races during an episode of Chopped? The reveal of the ingredients, the dangerous way chefs run past each other holding knives, the unveiling of the chopped dish? Then check out the adrenaline-pumping I Killed Zoe Spanos. This psychological thriller set in the Hamptons will keep you guessing until the very end. Did Anna really kill Zoe? And if she didn’t…who did?

6. Top Chef: The Bones of Ruin by Sarah Raughley

The chefs competing on Top Chef may not actually be magic, but they certainly create some culinary magic in that kitchen. If you like tuning in week after week (or watching all in one go, like yours truly) to follow this tournament of chefs, you’ll love the competition at the heart of The Bones of RuinGo ahead and root for Iris, the Black tightrope walker, as she searches for the truth behind her immortality while London’s elite secretly prepare for the apocalypse.

7. Nailed It!: Better Than the Movies by Lynn Painter

This one is for all the Wes stans…which I think is anyone who’s ever watched an episode of Nailed It!. We know Wes keeps the show running behind-the-scenes (who else could bring out the trophy?). And in Better Than the Movies, a romcom about the magic of romcoms, Wes Bennet will steal your heart as the ultimate annoying but somehow irresistible boy next door.

8. Cupcake Wars: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

If Lara Jean was a cutthroat competitor, she would have wound up on Cupcake Wars eventually. Instead, she chooses to bake for her loved ones, often as a tactic to avoid some harsh truth she’s not ready to face yet. Either way, make sure you have a reading snack handy when reading To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before because between the cookies and brownies and cakes and macarons, you’re going to be hungry.
