Books are a perfect way to pass the time these days, but reading can feel a little isolating. That’s why we’ve curated a list of books for you that are perfect to read with your friends! These are books that you won’t be able to stop talking about, and will allow you to connect with the people you love from far away.

Books to Make You Feel Connected

1. To All the Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han

This is the perfect rom-com to read with your friends as there is so much to talk about. What about Lara Jean makes her so relatable? Are you Team Peter or Team Josh? Also, after you finish, you can set up a Netflix party and watch Noah Centineo and Lana Condor bring these characters to life!

2. The Arc of a Scythe series by Neal Shusterman

What isn’t there to talk about with The Arc of a Scythe series? Aside from the fascinating premise, the plot is full of crazy surprises, and the characters are so dynamic, you can’t help but be intrigued. This is the perfect series to read with a group of friends because you’ll have someone to talk to each time your jaw drops!

3. When We Were Magic by Sarah Gailey

This book starts off with a bang, trust me, it really does, and once you finish the first chapter, you won’t be able to stop. While you’re nonstop reading, you’ll want a group of friends to come along with you on this crazy ride. When We Were Magic is really about the sisterhood between a group of teenaged witches, and you’ll be reminded of the strong bond you share with your friends while reading this together.

4. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Sure, pre-quaratine, you may have felt daunted by the sheer number of books in the Shadowhunters universe. But now? It should be the perfect series to start with your friends! Buckle up and prepare yourself to get sucked into the world of Shadowhunters for the rest of your quarantine.

5. Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

Sorcery of Thorns is magical, and not just because it’s about sorcerers and magical libraries. The writing is beautiful, the characters are so unique and lovable, and the world-building is flawless. You will not regret picking up this book, and asking your friends to join you on this journey. You’ll want to dissect every second of Elisabeth and Nathaniel’s relationship, and you’ll be talking about Silas for years to come. Stop what you’re doing and read this now!

6. A Heart in a Body in the World by Deb Caletti

We’re all experiencing grief right now and that’s okay. A Heart in a Body in the World is an incredible book about mental illness, about moving on, and about hope. It’s the kind of book that will keep you turning the page, and will make you want to discuss in length afterwards. It’s maybe just the kind of book we need right now.

7. The Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce

Alanna by Tamora Pierce

If you haven’t yet read the Alanna quartet, stop what you’re doing and start it NOW. This series is about Alanna of Trebond, a young woman who disguises herself as her twin brother in order to train as a knight. This series has everything you could ever want, a badass female protagonist, an intense love triangle, magic, and a talking cat. This is the perfect to read with you friends and I promise you’ll obsess over this pitch perfect series for years to come.
