There’s nothing I enjoy more than reading the first book in a series! I love being able to dive into a book and know the story won’t end when I get the final page. No matter how good the subsequent books are, the first book in a series always holds a special place in my heart. It’s where we first come to know and fall in love with the characters. Below I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite first books in a series I know you’ll love!
10 Series Starters We Know You’re Going To Love
1. Of Curses and Kisses by Sandhya Menon
This Beauty and the Beast retelling is the first in a new series from Sandhya Menon. Set at an elite boarding school in Colorado, Princess Jaya Rao sets out to make her family rival, Grey Emerson, fall in love with her so that she can break his heart. 2. Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto
All her life Veronyka has dreamed of being a Phoenix Rider, a secret group of elite warriors, however in order to join their ranks she must disguise herself as a boy. Crown of Feathers is the perfect start to an epic fantasy trilogy filled amazing and unforgettable characters that it will be impossible to not fall in love with. Once you finish this book make sure to check out the sequel, Heart of Flames!
3. Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare
Cassandra Clare has done it again with this brand-new series. Set in Edwardian England, a new generation of Shadowhunters race against the clock in order stop a series of demon attacks reeking havoc on the London Institute. Filled with mysteries, unrequited love, and an eclectic cast of characters, you’ll be begging for book two by the time you reach the last chapter.

If you love Les Miserables and sci-fi books then you definitely need to read this book! Sky Without Stars is a masterpiece in world building, filled with underdog characters that you will be rooting for on every page. By the time you finish this book, you’ll definitely want to pick up the sequel, Between Burning Worlds.

Though there are technically three first books in the Shadowhunter world, City of Bones is where we were first learned about Shadowhunters and Downworlders.
8. The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell
The fabulous series opener to a time travel adventure involving magicians, ruthless gangs, and secret societies.
9. Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
This one is a throwback to one of my favorite first books in a series about fallen angels. With plenty of romance, this is a great book to introduce you to the world.
10. Scythe by Neal Shusterman
This is the first book in a chilling new series from Neal Shusterman, introducing us to a world where natural death has been eradicated so the only way to control population is by using Scythes to end lives.
