Swoon. We all know Jenn Bennett supplies our contemporary hearts with squeal worthy reads. Now our lovely Jenn has written the perfect fantasy/contemporary cross over if I may say so myself. 2. Slayer by Kiersten White

Slayer follows the dynamic twindom of Athena (i.e. Nina) and Artemis, one who will save the world while the other will render it asunder. Throw in a childhood crush returned, serious parental issues, and newfound Slayer status and you’ve got a party!

3. Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

That is the question! This. Book. Is. My. Everything! It combines a serious book nerd (cough, cough, me), a sultry emotionally tortured sorcerer (my dreams), and major conspiracy. Oh and a soul crushingly endearing demon to boot. Rogerson creates characters and a world that breaths down your neck, giving you chills. Must. Read!

4. Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw

Oh dear indeed! Beware the dark, dark wood… I am not one to like scary. Scary anything if we’re being blunt. I can’t even watch horror movie trailers without plugging my ears and squeezing my eyes closed. Yet, I LOVED WINTERWOOD! This book is filled with intrigue, murder, witch, and young romance. Plus, the writing drips poetry and metaphor.

5. The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell

Imagine 1900s realness where magic, secret societies, and gang wars exist. Then toss in some cross-time space romance and heartbreak and you’ve got yourself a non-contemporary contemporary winner! All I have to say, go read this book!

6. We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson

Want a book that’ll make your heart hurt in absolutely the best way possible? I’ve got a winner for you then. Beyond the fact that main man Henry has been periodically abducted by aliens for serval years now – this is a contemporary book at heart. Go on an existential journey with Henry as he decides if the Earth is worth saving or if the demons of his life/society deserve to be wiped clean for a new start. Warning: reader may or may not leak salt water from eye ducts…
