There are many things we here at Riveted feel passionately about. Whether it’s books, coffee, Oreos, a gripping fantasy, a perfectly executed meet-cute, a swoon-worthy main character, or coffee (did I mention that one yet?) we love having lively discussions about our interests and opinions. One of the things we could talk about for days is pens! I’ll own up to my nerdiness and admit that I have had multiple hours-long conversations about different ink styles, the merits of a retractable point, and any other component of what makes a truly good pen. Here are some of the ones we love, and a little bit about why they’re special to us!
1. Pilot FriXion Ball Clicker Erasable Retractable Gel-Ink Pens
The most popular pen BY FAR is the Pilot FriXion Ball Erasable Gel Pen. It seems like being able to erase the evidence of an already-inked mistake is a novel idea!
“It’s erasable, writes like a gel pen, and comes in a bunch of different colors! Also, IT’S ERASABLE!” – Jasmine H.
“Not only does it have the longest pen name in the world, it writes like any good ballpoint pen but also erases for those times (that are plenty) when I mess up on the first try.” – Alissa N.
“Life. Changing. Pen.” – KeriLee H.
2. Pilot G2 Premium Retractable Gel Roller Pens
A close runner-up for the favorite pen is the Pilot G2! I’ve written with these dark-inked beauties before and can confirm that they are worth the hype.
“They write super smooth, have a nice grip, and the colors all still come out very dark, so I can take notes without a problem. Plus, they’re great for color-coding my calendar.” – Erin F.
“The Pilot G2 is a CLASSIC. It’s such a smooth, overall excellent pen.” – Nicole F.
3. Marvy Uchida Le Pen, Black
The Marvy Uchida Le Pen was another popular choice, and with a ~fancy~ name like that it’s easy to see why!
“The ink is very smooth, and I love the simplicity of it. It’s great for my journaling!” – Christian V.
“I have SO many favorites, but this is one I’ve been using the most lately.” – Jess H.
4. Muji Rubber Grip Polycarbonate Ballpoint Pen
Next up is the Muji Polycarbonate Ballpoint. Its modern look and super clickable top have me longing to try it!
“It’s precise, dries fast, easy and comfortable to hold, and writes very smooth. As someone who writes really hard (like I leave imprints on the page under the one I’m writing on), it’s not too inky and never bleeds through, while still writing dark. It’s the only pen I use!” – Emily Z.
5. Pilot Precise V5 RT Retractable Rolling Ball Pens
The Pilot Precise V5 is one pen that definitely lives up to its name. I love the crisp, fine point on this pen, and I’m not the only one!
“They are AMAZING. The ink is smooth and bold, the grip is comfortable, and they are so lightweight. It makes my handwriting look so much nicer than it usually does, especially when I write in script!” – Nicole B.
6. Pentel R.S.V.P. Ballpoint Pens, Fine Point
The Pentel RSVP Fine Line pens are classics, with their recognizable clear body and grip. The cap also makes a very satisfying “click” when you put it back on.
7. BIC® Round Stic® Grip Ballpoint Pens
The Bic Ultra Round Stic Grip is a no-frills pen that’s made its way into our hearts and onto the list. What it lacks in clicky-ness it makes up for in unwavering ink and devotion.
8. Muji 4 Types Mechanical Pen & Pencil
The Muji Ballpoint Pen + Mechanical Pencil received high praise, and happens to be quite elusive!
“My beloved Muji Ballpoint Pen + Mechanical Pencil lives at home and will never leave the house because apparently it’s extinct.” – Anna
9. Zebra Pen F-301 Stainless Steel Retractable Ballpoint Pen
The Zebra Stainless Steel Retractable pen is a bit of an anomaly. While a few of us aren’t huge fans, we have met people who feel very strongly that it is superior. Personally, it’s a bit too light of an ink for me, but I appreciate that it has a nice weight to it and is definitely a sleek looking accessory.
10. Pentel EnerGel Deluxe RTX Metal Tip Retractable Liquid Gel-Ink Pens
And last, but certainly not least, is my personal favorite! The Pentel EnerGel Retractable Gel-Ink pen is my beloved go-to, and I have it in every color they make. This thick pen feels sturdy and writes dark, and makes a satisfying clicky noise if you shake it. Overall, it’s an A+ pen.
