Across the Universe

By Beth Revis

A love out of time. A spaceship built of secrets and murder.

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone—one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship —tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

  1. I’m so glad to see Illuminae on this list. It was the very first YA novel that came to mind when I read the post title. I totally agree about Avalon too, although I haven’t finished reading it yet. These Broken Stars would be good too depending on the fan, probably a bit more selective than others.

You know what’s really good though is Dark Disciple. I mean, it is a Star Wars novel… and it’s not YA… BUT it’s really good. It’s probably one of the best Star Wars novels I’ve read yet.

One book that really reminded me of The Force Awakens was Stitching Snow by R.C. Lewis. It’s a great story about an girl without a family who lives on a desolate planet and has droids for friends– sound familiar? Then a hot guy named Dane crash lands on her planet. Take out the “hot guy named Dane” part and add in “Finn” and that sounds very familiar as well. They end up leaving the planet and getting thrown right into the middle of a war– once again, familiar– and she finally accepts that she can’t hide forever and accepts her destiny. Of course, from there the plot changes a lot (it’s not a rip off of The Force Awakens, I swear), but it’s still a great book. Love this list. Love this website. Have a nice day. Adios.
