2017 TBR: How did it go?

It has been a killer good year for YA books! Some of the books I’ve read this year have even settled quite comfortably among my favorites of all time. I didn’t have a lot of specific titles in mind this year that I wanted to read, but I set a number goal. While I only made it about three-fourths of the way there, it was more than I’ve read in the last few years, and I feel great about it! Here are a few of my very favorite reads from my 2017 TBR:

1. Scythe by Neal Shusterman

Scythe-HR-500x755

This book establishes a fascinating near future and all the consequences that go with it. I never thought I’d like professional assassin teens this much! Bonus, the sequel Thunderhead, comes out next month, and I liked it even more than Scythe. 1/9/18 friends! Mark your calendars!

2. This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada

This-Mortal-Coil-HR-500x755

This smart, twisty story has everything I wanted: a great heroine, an ever-present apocalyptic threat, and a bunch of hard choices. I know we all hear “twists you don’t see coming,” but honestly, the twists in this book are THAT IMPRESSIVE. The sequel is VERY MUCH on my 2018 TBR list.

3. Strange Fire by Tommy Wallach

Strange-Fire-HR-500x755

This series opener was so enticing. The world building was really interesting, and the characters were compelling. I cheered and yelled (in my head) many, many times.

How did your 2017 TBR list go? Did you find any new favorites? What are you adding to next year’s list?
