If you haven’t read Lady Midnight yet, you should seriously reconsider your life choices because it is so, so amazing. I could ramble on and on about all the reasons you should pick up this book right now, but I don’t know if they’d let me write more posts for Riveted after that. Instead, I’ve put together six top reasons why you should read Lady Midnight ASAP (but if you’d like some more, ask me in the comments)!

1.  A New Shadowhunter Series

I started reading Cassandra Clare’s books when I was in middle school. You would think after ten books, the excitement for the newest installment would start to get old. But that is so NOT the case with the Shadowhunter books. Reading Lady Midnight, I felt the familiar joy I’ve always felt picking up a Shadowhunter book. At this point, I trust Cassandra Clare to deliver stories I will love and Lady Midnight is no exception. If you enjoy being swept up into other worlds full of danger, love, and adventure, look no further than Lady MidnightBut maybe you haven’t read the Mortal Instruments or the Infernal Devices and you haven’t started Lady Midnight because you haven’t gotten to those stories yet. Don’t worry! This might be a companion series, but you can start with Lady Midnight. I promise everything will make sense, and chances are you’ll get so hooked on the world you’ll want to go back and read the others later anyway.

2. Forbidden Love

I’m a sucker for a forbidden love story and no one does it better than Cassandra Clare. There’s just something about the will-they-won’t-they thing that creates so much delicious tension. Emma and Julian are best friends and Parabatai, but the truth of their feelings for one another is not just swoon-worthy, it’s potentially dangerous. Is there a reason why romantic love between Parabatai is forbidden? Or is it just an arbitrary law that was always meant to be broken? This trope couldn’t be more up my alley and Lady Midnight does not disappoint.

3. Glimpses of our Favorite Characters

Have you wondered what our favorite characters from Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices have been up to since their books ended? Did the couple you shipped above everyone else stay together? Are they getting married? Well, one of the reasons why Lady Midnight is such a fun read is because we get to find out! The book starts five years after the end of City of Heavenly Fire, so get ready to see cameos of your favorite characters!

4.  The Shadowhunter World after the Dark War

In addition to seeing our beloved characters five years later, we get to see what has happened to the Shadowhunter world in the wake of the Dark War. Tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at an all-time high, especially after the Seelie Queen sided with Sebastian. Lady Midnight explores the fall out and what happens when people let old prejudices cloud their judgement. Really, the Mortal Instruments was only the beginning.

5. New Characters to Fall in Love with

If you’re still stuck on Jace or Will (jeez, what is it with those Herondales?), or thinking about how much you miss Clary’s fire, look no further! There are SO many characters to fall in love with in this new series. From the strong and protective Julian to the fierce Cristina, and even someone named Perfect Diego, there’s a character for everyone.

6. Lord of Shadows is here

If you’re someone who really enjoys binge reading, then this is the perfect time to read Lady Midnight! The second book in the Dark Artifices series, Lord of Shadows, has already released. So once you’re done with the adventure in Lady Midnight, you can move right on to Lord of Shadows with no wait time! And trust me, Lord of Shadows is ah-mazing. You do NOT want to miss out on this!
