It’s a Buffy Renaissance! Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the world-changing TV show that recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, just keeps getting more and more relevant. The show is available to watch on various streaming services, a new clothing line is coming out, and just a couple of weeks ago we announced a new official watcher’s guide. But the news just keeps getting better: yesterday, EW.com revealed that a BRAND NEW Buffy the Vampire Slayer book series is in the works!

Per EW:

Simon & Schuster’s teen division, Simon Pulse, will publish a new spinoff series of the cult classic television show that will be written by New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White. The series, which will be published in the fall of 2018, will be titled SLAYER and will feature a brand new slayer from the group of potentials that Willow used her Wicca skills to awaken in the show’s final episode.

Sweet, right?! Details are still scarce at this point but we pestered the editor for more info! Here’s what we can share that EW DIDN’T mention: This slayer will face a brand new “Big Bad,” and she will also be deeply affected by the major events involving Willow’s magic that have occurred in Season 8 and beyond in the Buffy comics. Additionally, her personal history has deep ties to the rich history of the Buffyverse and we’ll gain new insight into the world of the watchers.

We’re super excited that Kiersten White will be writing these new books since And I Darken has been a favorite of ours (and the world) for a while now. If this new heroine is as badass as Lada, we’re definitely in for a real treat! Plus, we’re confident that she’s going to do true justice to the series thanks to this heartfelt quote from the article:

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s influence on my own writing can’t be underestimated…When my agent asked if I was interested, I basically said, ‘Every book I’ve ever written was an audition for this.’ It’s still stunning to me that I get to contribute to a world that has been part of my imagination for more than half my life. Dreaming up my own slayer is one of the most surreal experiences of my career so far. I’m so excited to share her with diehard Scoobies and new fans alike!”

Are you as excited for this series as we are?! Let us know in the comments!!
