Hurray for cover reveals! We showed off a bunch of our Fall covers earlier this year but there are still a few left to be revealed. Often, it’s because the covers are still being worked on (we’ve talked MANY times in the past about how hard it is to nail a cover and how much work goes into it!), other times it’s because they’re just too big or too exciting and need their own moment. THIS cover definitely falls under the latter!
Chances are you’re already familiar with author Tommy Wallach. He shattered expectations with his debut novel We All Looked Up, which followed the lives of four high school seniors grappling with the imminent approach of a life-ending asteroid. Wallach then followed-up with Thanks for the Trouble, a high-concept contemporary novel about the relationship between a boy who can’t speak and a girl who may or may not be immortal.
This fall (available October 3, to be precise!), Wallach is embarking in an epic new direction: Strange Fire will be the first book in a new post-apocalyptic trilogy! Here’s the official description:
For teens who grew up reading and adoring The Giver and The City of Ember.
Oregon Trail meets Westworld in this epic new trilogy from the New York Times bestselling author of We All Looked Up, Tommy Wallach.
Knowledge has always been the enemy of faith.
They said that the first generation of man was brought low by its appetites: for knowledge, for power, for wealth. They said mankind’s voracity was so great, the Lord sent his own Daughter to bring fire and devastation to the world.
The survivors were few, but over the course of centuries they banded together to form a new civilization—the Descendancy—founded on the belief that the mistakes of the past must never be repeated.
Brothers Clive and Clover Hamill, the sons of a well-respected Descendant minister, have spent their lives spreading that gospel. But when their traveling ministry discovers a community intent on rediscovering the blasphemous technologies of the past, a chain of events will be set in motion that will pit city against city…and brother against brother.
Alongside Jez Poplin, Clive’s childhood sweetheart, and Paz Dedios, a revolutionary who dreams of overthrowing the Descendancy, Clive’s and Clover’s paths will diverge, and each will play a part in determining the fate of humanity itself.
Could this be the world of We All Looked Up hundreds of years in the future?! We don’t know but we certainly hope so!!!
Anyway, Entertainment Weekly just revealed the cover yesterday (Check out their post for a short excerpt) and it is glorious! We love this cover and we’re so intrigued by the plot, we’ve already added this to our TBR list on Goodreads (Here’s that link in case you want to do the same!). Without further ado, here’s the cover! Waddaya think?
