I’ve always believed in the power of poetry! Whether writing it or reading it, it’s an often overlooked but powerful medium. I love the feeling of setting my thoughts and feelings on to the page so they’re no longer rattling around in my head demanding to be acknowledged. I also love the feeling of understanding and peace that washes over me when I read a piece of poetry that I really identify with; one that makes me feel like I’m not alone in my thoughts.
If you’re anything like me, then you will love Get Lit Rising, a new book that showcases teen poets called the Get Lit Players. These are teens who struggle with homelessness, autism, incarceration, body image, depression, and more. But they use the power of poetry to reclaim their lives and influence their friends, families, and communities. The book Get Lit Rising includes these powerful poems, along with questions, writing prompts, and how-tos for readers to set their own inner poet free!
Still unsure if this book is for you? Check out the Get Lit Rising Extended Excerpt (available until October 31st)!
