Sierra Furtado’s not only a top YouTube lifestyle vlogger with over 2.4 million followers — as of today, she’s also a published author! However, unlike social media heartthrob Jake Paul who we posted about last week, Sierra knew it wasn’t her time yet to write an autobiography or memoir. Her new novel Life Uploaded is a work of fiction, though protagonist Harper Ambrose, also a hugely popular YouTube lifestyle vlogger, has a lot in common with Sierra.
Sierra stopped by to share a little more about her life and her novel. Hear from her below and then read on for an excerpt from Life Uploaded.
Dear Riveted Reader,
Sierra Furtado here! I’m so thrilled to be here today talking about my book Life Uploaded, available today! This book is fiction—but if you read closely enough, you’ll see shades of my own life written in there!—about a teenager named Harper Ambrose who on the one hand is a hugely popular YouTube lifestyle vlogger, and on the other hand is facing everyday life problems that every teen is all too familiar with: school bullies, boy crushes, SAT worries, and the dreaded bad hair day. Like, BAD, bad hair day. Ugh.
When I first contemplated writing a book, I knew it wasn’t time for an autobiography or memoir—yet. There’s so much more of my life story that hasn’t come to light. But what has come to light is that, to achieve your dreams, you need to be focused, consistent, and passionate about what it is you do, whether it’s making YouTube videos in your bedroom in the hopes that someday someone will see them (and then climbing to 2 million-plus subscribers! Squee!), sewing together the next runway fashions, writing the next hit song—whatever it is! I stuck to my dreams and have been lucky enough to achieve so much at such a young age, and I wanted to imbue that spirit into the main character of my book, Harper. So in a way, Life Uploaded is me sharing everything I’ve learned in life so far, through my main character’s voice; she’s sassy, successful, and savvy, but she’s also scared of the challenges that lie ahead, and vulnerable to the ups and downs of the journey. And that’s normal—it’s okay to be afraid, but it’s about standing up to those fears and conquering them with your head held high. That’s what I hope Harper teaches you: never let fear derail you from chasing your dreams.
Life Uploaded is filled with laughs, tears, confessions, all the feels, and more than one (hopefully!) helpful DIY makeup & hair tutorial—this is loosely based on my own life, after all. So get ready for a wild ride and be sure to pick up the book! AND, as if that wasn’t all exciting enough, I’m going on a book tour and it could be to a city near you! Here’s the full book tour list, come meet me in person so I can tell you how awesome you are!
Keep being your best selves, every day, and remember: if you are reading this, you are perfect.

This heartwarming, coming-of-age tale from top YouTube lifestyle vlogger Sierra Furtado explores what it means to redefine happiness on your own terms, and to stay true to who you are even in the face of Internet insta-fame.
All sixteen-year-old Harper Ambrose has ever wanted is to be recognized: for her zany sense of humor, her on-fleek fashion sense, and her love of all things makeup, flirty, and fun. After an awkward childhood where she fell out with her BFF Gwen and thought she’d never find her one true love, at last Harper feels as though she’s finally discovered her voice in a space she never expected: on YouTube, making videos about her day-to-day life and broadcasting them to the masses.
Now an insanely popular vlogger with millions of followers, Harper balances the stresses of everyday high school life—SAT prep, boring teachers, and the mean girl clique staring her down in the hallway—with the glam, fast-paced world of online celebrity. But when one hater on Twitter starts targeting Harper in 140 characters or less, and a young British actor who’s captured Harper’s heart might not be everything he seems, Harper feels like her pitch-perfect life is suddenly going to pieces around her. Who better to help her pick them up and find herself again than her best friend Ellie and a certain tall, dark, and handsome someone she might not have realized was waiting in the wings for her all along?
